Coldplay buy a London HQ

10/19/2006 -- HERE iS something that will put a smile on the faces of COLDPLAY fans.
I've discovered that, contrary to recent reports, the band have made a massive commitment to each other and are definitely in it for the long haul.
The four group members - CHRIS MARTIN , GUY BERRYMAN , WILL CHAMPION and JONNY BUCKLAND - have clubbed together to buy a building in Hampstead, north-west London.
They are spending a fortune converting the property into Coldplay HQ - containing studios and offices.
The rockers have entered into a legal contract which makes them joint owners of their new base, which will house all of their staff and equipment.
They will use their state-of-the-art studio to write and record the next album - the follow-up to 2005's No1 CD X&#Y. A source told me:
"Coldplay spent 18 months recording X&#Y at various studios all over the world.
"It became a really drawn-out process and it made their home lives difficult.
"Chris has now got two children, Guy just became a father last month and Will and his wife had their first child in April. So they don't really want to be jetting all over the place any more.
"They decided it is time to put down roots and have a base to enable them to carry on working without being too far from home. ::MPU::
"The obvious place was in London, where they all live.
"They have spent months looking for the right property and finally came across one over the summer.
"Work has already begun on installing all the latest studio equipment and constructing offices for their staff.
"The four of them will have all of their band meetings there and they will start writing new material as soon as the studio is finished.
"It is a sign that the group will be continuing as a band for many years to come."
At the beginning of this year Will hinted that the group would be making this big step. He said: "We're trying to find somewhere we can set up and work from.
"In all of these years working together we haven't had an HQ, our own studio or anything like that.
"We want somewhere that we can hole up and see what happens."
The move is reminiscent of when, in 1968, THE BEATLES set up their Apple record label HQ in Central London. It became their centre of operations.
Another strong sign that Coldplay are serious about their future in the music business came a few weeks ago when they decided to part company - on good terms - with their UK manager Estelle Wilkinson.
Their American manager, Dave Holmes, is taking over - and will be setting up a UK office in the new building. SOURCES:www.myfoxal.com

COLDPLAY DENY FIVE YEAR HIATUS

LATEST: COLDPLAY have furiously denied reports they're taking a five year break from music to concentrate on their families. Fans of the British rockers feared recent comments attributed to frontman CHRIS MARTIN meant a new album would be a long time coming. The singer was reportedly overheard saying, "It's going to be a long, long time before you hear a new album from us. We've done a few things, but we're all enjoying having families at the moment. If it takes five years for us to feel ready to record something new, then so be it. We need plenty of time to let it come together organically." The quotes however, could not be directly linked to the YELLOW star, and a spokesperson for the group's American label Capitol Records, AMBROSIA HEALY, insists the group won't be away for long. She says, "The band are enjoying a much deserved break, which I think everybody knows. No, there isn't a self-imposed five year hiatus. "There isn't a timetable for them recording the follow up to X+Y (2005 album). They're enjoying not having a plan at the moment. Isn't that what a break is all about?"03/10/2006 17:26

Gwyneth's Mum:Coldplay Saved Us

Gwyneth Paltrow's mother Blythe Danner has revealed her family turned to Coldplay's music to get over the death of her husband.Blythe has revealed her actress daughter [pictured] was already emotionally attached to her future husband, Chris Martin's music before they met, because she listened to it while grieving for her director father Bruce. She told Britain's New magazine: "I think there is something quite deep about their music. Weirdly enough, when Bruce died, we were all listening to Coldplay a lot, and then Gwyn and Chris happened to meet. It's really interesting."The 'Meet The Fockers' actress has also joked that she feels like her son-in-law's "oldest groupie" when she goes to see him perform live - because she is always hanging out backstage with musicians and fans. She added: "I don't sit in the front row when I go to his concerts, I usually hang out backstage with Gwyneth and Apple. I'm his oldest groupie!"Source: http://people.monstersandcritics.com/

Just Champion! Coldplay star back home for university opening
By Sarah Jones
IT was with a tear in his eye and a lump in his throat that one-quarter of one of the most famous rock bands on the planet returned to his hometown of Southampton.
Coldplay drummer Will Champion took time out of the award-winning band's hectic schedule to perform a heartfelt honour.
He was invited to Southampton University to officially open a new archaeology building, which holds special significance for his family.
continued...

The musician's late-mother Dr Sara Champion, who lost her battle with cancer in 2000, worked as a lecturer in the department with which she was associated for nearly 30 years.
The connection does not end there as his dad Tim still works in the department as a Professor of Archaeology.
A crowd of more than 100 people gathered at the opening of the new £2m Crawford Building at the university's Avenue Campus in Highfield.
Addressing the audience with a touching speech, Will, 28, said: "I will keep it brief because, as you know, drummers are not best known for their public speaking.
"The last time I was in this building, or I should say the old building, I was picking up a silver medal for a Southampton Schools under-15 trampolining competition. I am convinced it was a fix."
Coldplay drummer, Will Champion.
"The last time I was in this building, or I should say the old building, I was picking up a silver medal for a Southampton Schools under-15 trampolining competition. I am convinced it was a fix.
"I am very proud to be here on behalf of my family and my band.
"Growing up as the youngest son of two archaeologists, it is difficult to understate the impact the subject has had on my life, considering even my babysitters were archaeologists!"
The father of a five-month baby girl added that Champion family holidays invariably featured "obelisks, burial grounds and hill forts".
Will recalled working briefly for the university himself as "a penniless 18 year-old" when he assisted with a department relocation.
The avid Saints fan added: "The building seems to encapsulate lots of things my mum held very dear: art, archaeology, technology and people."
Becoming choked and glassy-eyed, he paused to clear his throat and regain his composure and concluded by saying: "It is a very fitting tribute to her and on behalf of everyone here, I can declare it officially open."
A seminar room within the new department has been named in honour of his mother.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, his father Professor Tim Champion, who has worked at the university for the best part of three decades, said: "It is a special day for the family and it is good that the school has invited Will, as somebody who grew up with two parents who were academic archaeologists who worked with the university for a long time, but did not become an archaeologist himself.
"He read anthropology at University College London which is an interest he gained from us but obviously a different career developed for him!"
The new three-storey archaeology department, which features state-of-the-art teaching laboratories, replaces a number of buildings that were spread across the campus.fromhttp://www.thisishampshire.net

coldplay biography

Coldplay is an alternative rock band from London, England. Having released three successful albums, Coldplay has also achieved great success with their singles, such as "Yellow", "Speed of Sound" and the Grammy-winning "Clocks".
Coldplay's early material was influenced by the likes of Jeff Buckley and Radiohead, while also drawing comparisons to U2 and Travis. Since the release of the band's debut album Parachutes (2000), Coldplay has also drawn influence from other sources, including Echo and the Bunnymen and George Harrison on A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002) and Johnny Cash and Kraftwerk for X&Y (2005), the band's latest release.
Coldplay is one of very few current British music acts to achieve major success in North America. Despite Coldplay's large worldwide popularity, the band has remained protective of how their music is used in the media, refusing its use for product endorsements. In the past, Coldplay turned down multi-million dollar contracts from Gatorade, Diet Coke, and The Gap, who wanted to use the songs "Yellow", "Trouble", and "Don't Panic" respectively. According to Martin, "We wouldn't be able to live with ourselves if we sold the songs' meanings like that."
Since 2002, Coldplay have been active supporters of various social and political causes. They have been visible advocates of Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. The group has also performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
